"Reuse" is the process of refurbishing items that have outlived their usefulness and delivering them to the next user.
Since 2021, Tsuchiya Bag Manufacturing has been implementing a reuse initiative in which it collects its own products, has specialized craftsmen repair, restore leather, and restore color, and then sells the products as unique, one-of-a-kind items.
Shoki Takei, head of the reuse business unit at Ikebe Musical Instruments, a musical instrument specialty store that will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025 and is also committed to reuse, says that the reuse practices of the two companies have something in common.
That is, "highly specialized staff perform appropriate maintenance and then send the product out to new customers."
The two companies discussed their passion for the reuse business at a conference bringing together companies involved in reuse.
